William Eric Fletcher, 73, passed away on May 28, 2026 in Chattanooga, TN. He was born on October 24, 1952, in Crestline, Ohio, to Earl and Marjorie Fletcher, nee Jones.
Bill graduated from Crestline High School, in Crestline, OH in 1971. He went on to earn an education degree from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1975 where he met his wife, Stephanie. Bill taught and coached multiple sports at Crestline High School upon graduation. Bill and Stephanie moved to Knoxville, TN in 1982 where he earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Tennessee.
Bill taught special education for many years in the Knox County school system at Karns High, Christenberry Middle, Gresham Middle, and Cedar Bluff Middle, making sure every student had the chance to reach their potential. He coached boys basketball at Karns High and Central High School for many years and helped many young men develop important skills for life through sports.
Bill was a passionate sports enthusiast, engaging in playing, coaching, and watching various sports throughout his life, especially his favorites- The University of Tennessee Volunteers and The Ohio State Buckeyes. His family cherished moments spent together watching games, celebrating victories, and supporting each other through the challenges of competition.
Bill was an artist, and created various pieces of art that his family treasures. He brought humor to everything he did, and his grandkids know that he had the best jokes ever. His humor, competitive spirit, gentleness, and sincere character have left a lasting impact on those who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
Bill is survived by his loving children, Allegra (Lawrence) Collier, Katie (Wes) Motsinger, John (Aerial) Fletcher, and Abby (Paul) Nicely. He was a treasured grandfather to Ainsley, Lawson, Wade, and Fletcher Collier, Will and Charlie Motsinger, Theodore and Linus Fletcher, and Cliff and Lily Nicely. He is also survived by his brother Dick Fletcher, his sister Jane (Philip) Fletcher-Waterworth, sister-in-law Gina Fletcher, sister-in-law Torey (Jim) Beavers, and numerous close family members and life-long friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Stephanie, in January 2026. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jack Fletcher and Mark Fletcher, and his grandson Finn Fletcher.
In honor of his memory, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to his alma mater, Baldwin-Wallace University.
