William Edward Thornton

William Edward “Bill” Thornton, 86, of Cleveland, TN passed away on August 20, 2022. He was born on November 2, 1935 to the late Edward and Wanda Thornton. Bill was a lifetime resident of Cleveland and he served for 2 years in the United States Army. He loved to “tinker” on cars, bicycles, and anything he could get his hands on. He enjoyed fishing and loved his dog, “Bandy” very much. Bill was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his mother and father he is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ruth Thornton; brothers: Jim Thornton, Robert Thornton, Lawrence Thornton, and Laney Thornton; sister Virginia Cody.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters: LaFonda McRae, Congetta (L.A.) Broomfield, Donna (Scott) Rinker; sister Dorothy (James) Hamilton; stepdaughters Brenda Miller and Donna (Joe) Bacon; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members and special neighbors and friends.
Bill’s family will have a graveside service with military honors at the Fort Hill Veterans Section at 12:00pm on Wednesday August 24, 2022. Rev. Lake Walker will be officiating.
