Verna Sue Swafford Mullins, lovingly known as Sue, passed away peacefully at her home on December 24, 2025, surrounded by her son and daughter-in-law. A longtime resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, Sue lived a life rooted in faith, family, and quiet strength.
Sue loved the Lord and was a proud, devoted member of Michigan Avenue Baptist Church. Her faith guided her life and was evident in the love and care she showed to those around her. She took great pride in her role as a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother, finding her greatest joy in her family.
Sue was born in Athens, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Suda Mae Womac Swafford and Roy L. "Rip" Swafford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Reva Lou Swafford West, Beatrice Swafford, Emma Lee Swafford Willison, and Theresa Swafford Hope.
She is survived by her brother, Rondal "Ronnie" Swafford; her son, Timothy Joe Mullins (Joyce Marie Mullins); her grandchildren, Kadyn Max Mullins, Bentley Wayne Mullins, Sarita Evans, and Rikkie Ledford; her great-granddaughters, Zoe Oliva Evans and Rylan Maci Ledford; and her great-great-grandson, Creed Layne Callahan.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Idlewild Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Alvin Howard, Bentley Mullins, Kadyn Mullins, Ron Milner, Terry Lewis, and Rex Reagan. Honorary pallbearers will be the Decans at Michigan Avenue Baptist Church.
Sue will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her gentle spirit, and her deep love for her family. Her legacy of love will continue through the many generations she cherished.
