Tony Dwayne Murphy passed away on July 28th, 2026 at the age of 63. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and genuine friendship that touched so many. 

Tony lived his whole life in Blount County and was known as a man who never met a stranger. He had a gift for making people feel welcome. Whether you knew him for years or only a few moments, you likely walked away feeling like a friend. 

Tony spent many years working on the road as an over-the-road truck driver. He also worked driving dump trucks and operating heavy equipment, and he could handle just about any machine put in front of him. He was skilled, dependable, and known for his strong work ethic. 

Tony loved riding his motorcycle and spending time on the water, whether he was on his boat or fishing. Tony cherished his mornings with Yvonne Buchanan, his days with his family, and his evenings with friends. He was always sharing a good story. He was also a devoted NASCAR fan and rarely missed a race. 

In the last year, Tony faced prostate cancer and several other serious health challenges. Even during difficult days, he continued to bring laughter to those around him and found ways to lighten the hearts of the people he loved most. His children will forever cherish his daily phone calls, his familiar greeting of “Hello, darlin’,” his wisdom, his humor, and the countless memories they shared. He had a special way of turning ordinary moments into treasured ones. 

Tony deeply loved his family and carried the memories of those who had gone before him. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Wayne and Ann Murphy, his sisters, Terry Murphy Burkett, and Sherry Murphy, his sister-in-law, April Murphy, the love of his life Trisha, and numerous other family members and dear friends.

 He leaves behind three children, Michael Young, Travis (Hollie) Murphy, and Tosha (Chris) Wilhelmsen; his six grandchildren; his brothers, Tracy (Lynette) Murphy and Rodney (Paige) Murphy; a loving family, many lifelong friends, and an extended community that will miss his presence tremendously. His impact reached far beyond his family, and the outpouring of love from friends, neighbors, and acquaintances is a testament to the remarkable life he lived. While our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice in the hope of Christ and the promise of eternal life. His stories will still be told, his laugh will be remembered, and his friendship will be cherished. Tony will be missed by so many. 

Receiving of friends will be held Thursday, August 6th 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Niles Ferry Baptist Church in Greenback.
