Listen to Obituary

Timothy "Tim" George Joy passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of Friday, September 4, 2026, leaving behind a rich legacy of unwavering faith, a legendary work ethic, and selfless service to his family, church, and community.

The youngest son of Malcolm and Lena Joy, Tim graduated from Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Massachusetts, where he met the love of his life, Diane. They were married in Amesbury, Massachusetts, beginning a lifelong partnership in family, teaching, ministry, and service. Together, Tim and Diane dedicated decades to Christian education, serving schools across New England, Florida, and Tennessee.

A master craftsman and skilled carpenter, Tim built his family’s off-grid home on a Maine island with his own hands, instilling in his children a deep appreciation for family, nature, and self-reliance. His work ethic was defined by direct action—whether shingling roofs in freezing weather, working alongside heavy machinery with a hand shovel, or building a plywood double-decker camper on his pickup truck for a student road trip across the country.

Tim’s faith was the bedrock of his life. A devoted Seventh-day Adventist, he rose early each morning to study Scripture and pray. His spiritual walk was practical and active, defined by a strong sense of justice, a passion for deep theological discussion, and an earnest desire to serve others.

Tim is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his children, Nick, Nate, and Rona; and extended family, former students, and friends across the country. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
