Sue Dowdle Kirk

August 6, 1933 — June 15, 2025

Sue Dowdle Kirk passed away peacefully Sunday, June 15, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Rose Anne, Virginia. She attended Burch High School in Mingo County West Virginia, where she was a varsity cheerleader and majorette. She married her high-school sweetheart and basketball star, Lindsey Albert (Sug) Kirk, Jr., and attended Bluefield State College where she excelled in mathematics. Sue and Lindsey were married seventy one years before his death in 2022. Sue's two children were the center of her universe. Sue made sure everyone in her presence had an excellent meal and knew they were loved. As CFO of Kirk & Co, she served with distinction and was highly regarded for upholding the highest moral directives and financial requirements.

"Mama Sue" is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Lindsey Kirk, Rising Fawn, GA, and Elizabeth Ann Kirk Southern, Union SC; sisters, Betty Lou Davison, Phoenix, AZ, Brenda Joy Wireman, Salyersville, KY; five grandchildren, Tyler Kirk Roger's (Andrew), Columbia, SC, Ryan Lindsey Kirk Kopet (Brian), Chattanooga, TN, Evan Parker Southern, Peterstown, WV, Logan Clay Kirk (Tiffany), Chattanooga, TN, Cory Alexander Southern, Union, SC; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hyseo Southern, Peterstown, WV, Katherine Seyward Kopet and Anna Hollis Kopet, Chattanooga TN, Elowyn Susanna Roger's and Lillianna Pearl Rogers, Columbia, SC; nieces Jennifer Minix and Stephanie Wireman, Salyersville, KY, Leslie Sutton, Tucson AZ, Susie Hagan, Santa Barbara CA; nephews, Micheal Dowdle, Virginia, Eric Wireman and Jason Wireman, Salyersville, KY, Judson Bradley Davison, San Diego, CA; brother-in-law Ken Ruth, OH, and the Kirk family of Memphis, TN, MS, and FL.

Preceded in death by husband Lindsey Albert Kirk Jr., sister Linda Carol Ruth from Sydney Ohio, sister Emma Joan Dowdle, VA, brother Thomas Eugene Dowdle, Bristol VA, and nephew Jeffrey Dowdle of IN.

The service will be held on, Monday, June 30, 2025, 1:00 PM, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery,1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404, followed by internment alongside Lindsey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Pat Summitt Foundation, Knoxville, TN, Sue's favorite charity.
