Steven "Steve" Shoemate
January 13, 1961 - October 25, 2026
Steven Shoemate, 65, passed away peacefully at home on October 25, 2026. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on January 13, 1961, to Bobbie Braam and Wayne Shoemate.
Family always came first for Steve. He was preceded in death by his sister, Stacy Tyrell, and his wife, Debbie. He leaves behind his four children, Jeremiah, Jesse, Jade, and Jewell, who were the pride of his life, and ten grandchildren who brought him great joy in recent years: Penelope, Rylee, Bryson, Kennedy, Adaya, Judah, Braxton, Mason, Emory, and Grayson.
He is also survived by his siblings, Sandy and Sheryl, and by a large extended family. Steve was a beloved uncle to Crystal, Holly, April, Amanda, Georgia, Montana, Jacklyn, Stephanie, Addison, Hailey, Alexis, Ava, Vada, Lillian, Skylyn, Maya, Lennon, Nyah, Braam, Austin, Logan, Landon, Harley, Cole, Spencer, Brayden, Jackson, Gage, Legend, Chevy, Noah, and Nash, and he always had a warm smile or a good joke for every one of them.
He was just as loyal to his friends. Mike, John, Whitney, Rob, Steven, Billy, Russel, and Davina shared years of memories, laughs, and adventures with him.
Steve served his country in the United States Marine Corps, and he worked in maintenance at B-Way Corporation and Tecumseh, where his hard work and reliability earned him the respect of his coworkers.
Away from work, he was a lifelong Baptist who loved fishing and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Those who knew him will remember his sarcastic humor and quick wit, but most of all his kindness. He was quick to forgive, slow to judge, and had a gift for making strangers feel like friends. He was always there when you needed him, whether it was a helping hand or a good laugh.
A celebration of life will be held on January 16, 2027. Details will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Steve or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland and the Cody family are honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
