Samuel Dean Thomas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully at his home on October 31, 2026. Born on June 4, 1939, in Whitwell, Tennessee. Samuel was the cherished son of Frank and Lula Thomas. He grew up surrounded by the love of his family, including his siblings George and Frieda, and his sisters Suzy Jane Turner and LaVera Ann Rollins, who proceeded him in death.

Samuel's journey was marked by a deep commitment to education and personal growth. After graduating from Whitwell High School in 1959, he pursued higher education at the University of Chattanooga, where he earned his bachelor's degree in industrial psychology. His thirst for knowledge led him further to obtain his master's degree from Georgia Tech, a testament to his dedication and perseverance.

In January 1963, Samuel married the love of his life, Mary Louise, in Tennessee. Their union, lasting an extraordinary 63 years, was a beacon of love and partnership. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising three wonderful children: Patrick (and fiancé Crystal), Michael (and wife Teresa), and John (and wife Wendy). Samuel and Mary were blessed with six grandchildren-Lillian (Braden) Hunter, Sarah (Matthew) Plaas, Joshua (Destiny) Thomas, Madison Thomas, Landon Thomas, and Emma Adams-who, along with their great-grandchildren, filled their lives with joy and laughter.

Samuel built a successful career, retiring from Synthetic Industries in 2003. He was a dedicated and active member of the McDonald United Methodist Church, where his presence and contributions were deeply valued.

An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Samuel found peace and happiness in nature. His favorite moments were spent in Tellico Plains, camping and teaching his grandchildren the art of fishing and the beauty of the great outdoors. He was well-known for his quick wit, warm smile, and his ability to lighten any room with a well-timed joke. A lifelong learner, he was often seen with a book in hand, always ready to share a story or a lesson.

Samuel's life was a testament to love, loyalty, and laughter, touching the hearts of everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on through the memories shared by his family and friends, and through the love that he fostered throughout his life.

In gratitude for the compassionate care Samuel received, the family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hearth Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in Samuel's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , reflecting his commitment to supporting causes close to his heart.

Samuel will be deeply missed but forever remembered by his beloved wife Mary, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his surviving siblings George (Jean) Thomas and Frieda (Bill) Neely. His legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
