IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Samantha Jewel
Gilliard
October 30, 1949 – February 28, 2026
Samantha Jewel (Long) Gilliard, age 76, entered peacefully into eternal rest on February 28, 2026, at 3:10 a.m., surrounded by love and carried home by faith.
Born on October 30, 1949, in West Virginia, Samantha's life began in the quiet strength of Appalachian roots. In 1982, she and her family moved from Florida to Sweetwater, Tennessee, where she would continue building a home centered on faith, resilience, and devotion.
For 60 beautiful years, she shared a steadfast and enduring marriage with her beloved husband, William Larry Gilliard. Their union was marked by perseverance, commitment, and a shared belief that family is a sacred calling. Together they raised six children and lovingly opened their hearts and home to three adopted children. Her love did not measure by biology - it measured by devotion.
Samantha's greatest ministry was her family. She was a praying mother, a steady presence, and a quiet warrior of faith. Through seasons of joy and hardship, she remained anchored in Christ. Her strength was not loud, but it was unshakable. Her gentleness carried authority because it was rooted in conviction.
She found joy in the simple and eternal things - gathering her children together, holding her grandchildren close, offering wisdom when asked, and prayer when words were not enough. Her 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren were among her greatest treasures. Each one carried a piece of her heart.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, William Larry Gilliard; her nine children; her three older brothers; her 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and all who were blessed to know her as wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Her life was a testimony to enduring love, steadfast faith, and the quiet strength of a woman who trusted God fully.
Though her earthly journey has ended, her legacy continues - in the faith she planted, the family she nurtured, and the prayers that still echo in the lives of those she loved.
There will be a Celebration of Life service held graveside on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11 a.m. located at Lakeview Cemetery in Lenoir City, TN.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
- Matthew 25:23
