Roger Alan Phillips, 64, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away at home on August 28, 2026.
Born June 20, 1962, in Cleveland, Roger was a graduate of Bradley Central High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division.
Throughout his life, Roger worked in several different trades, including many years as a truck driver, mechanic, and metalworker. A true jack of all trades, Roger enjoyed working with his hands. There wasn't much he couldn't fix, build, or take apart.
Roger was a simple man who loved the outdoors, spending time camping, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed racing, especially NASCAR, and was an RC enthusiast. He was an animal lover with a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Max, and his granddog, Abby.
Roger loved his family and friends and had a special bond with his daughter, Chasidy, but often said his greatest blessing in life was being Papaw to Olivia, Jax, Ava, and Liam.
Roger is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Chasidy and Peter Cole; grandchildren, Olivia Vreeland, Anthony "Jax" Cole, Ava Cole, and Phoenix "Liam" Phillips; his granddog, Abby; his brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Renelda Phillips; niece, Megan Phillips; and great-nephew, Maverick Varnell.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Dennis and Thelma Phillips; his son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Tiffany Phillips; and his beloved dog, Max.
Perhaps what Roger will be remembered most for is being unapologetically himself. He lived life on his own terms, never feeling the need to fit in and never afraid to do things his way. He was truly one of a kind, a diamond in the rough. The things he taught us and the memories we made with him will continue to be carried by those who knew and loved him.
To celebrate his life, a gathering with food and refreshments will take place on Sunday, October 11, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 902 Park Ave NW, Cleveland, TN 37311. He will be laid to rest with military honors the following day, Monday, October 12, at 9:00 AM in the Chattanooga National Cemetery columbarium, 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
You are encouraged to share a memory of Roger and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home and the Cody family are honored to assist his family with these arrangements.
