Rodney Eugene "Rod" Tant, Sr., passed away on April 17, 2026, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Born on June 9, 1972, in Chattanooga, Rodney lived a life filled with passion for history, family, and the simple joys of nature.
Rodney was the beloved son of Angela Herendon and the late Eddie Lowry. He is also survived by his sister, Kristy Herendon; uncles Michael Smith and David "Buck" Tant; and his children: Rodney Tant, Jr., Michelle (Mark) Smith, and Troy (Jordan) Tant. He was a proud grandfather to Ransom Tant, Rhythm Tant, Madalynn Tant, Alayna Henley-Tant, Kinslee Tant, and London Smith. His family brought him immense joy and were central to his life.
Preceding him in death were his grandmothers Flo Tant and Dorothy Lowry; great-grandparents Annie Lightfoot and Robert E. Lee Lightfoot; grandfather Lester Hawk; granddaughter Iyla Marie Tant; uncles Roger Tant and Richard Tant, Sr.; and cousin Richard Tant, Jr.
Rodney had a deep appreciation for Civil War history and could often be found immersed in learning about this era. He also loved trains and cars, reflecting his fascination with movement and mechanics. Rodney enjoyed grilling outdoors while surrounded by loved ones and cherished spending time in nature with animals. Southern rock provided the soundtrack to many of his days as he embraced life with enthusiasm.
Known for his vibrant personality, Rodney had a gift for making people laugh and was often the life of the party. His humor and warmth left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
