Ricky Alan Bivens

July 20, 1953-August 21, 2025

It is with profound sadness and much love that the family of Ricky Alan Bivens, announce his passing. Ricky passed peacefully at home, following a long battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones on August 21, 2025.

Ricky was a man of integrity, humor, work ethic, decency, and a friend to all. He enjoyed friendly conversation and telling tales that sometimes tended to be on the tall side.

In his lifetime, Ricky had been a farmer and a cattleman. He served as the Meigs County trustee for 28 years, from the 1980s into the early 2000s. He was a businessman, a former deacon at Ten Mile Baptist Church , a Mason at the Decatur Lodge, and above all, a proud husband, father, and grandfather.

He loved spending time playing golf and cards with his friends at White Oaks Golf Club. Not so many years ago, he was an avid quail, pheasant, and deer hunter and spent countless happy days fishing Sewee Creek. One of his favorite past times was walking the river banks looking for Native American artifacts with his family and beloved dog.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Raymond Edwin Bivens, mother, Margaret Nell Russell Bivens, and beloved brother, Edwin Leolas Bivens.

He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 53 years, Blanchette "Libby" Elizabeth Bivens, and cherished daughters Miranda Bivens and April Bivens Newman. He was the very proud and loving grandfather to Laney Brooke Norris and Geoffrey Tate Norris, as well as Zoey Elizabeth Newman and Russell Scout Newman. He leaves behind a very much loved and special nephew, Jeremy Devere Bivens, who was like the son he never had. He is also survived by his dear sister, Claudia Arlene Bivens Newman & husband Eddie Newman.

To honor Ricky's wishes, no formal visits will be held at this time. We kindly thank all who have reached out to extend kindnesses and condolences in this very difficult time.

You are invited to share a personal memory of Ricky and/or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Athens and the Cody family are honored to assist the Bivens family with these arrangements.
