Richard Cockman, age 63, of Athens, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on July 30th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He has gone home to heaven to be with Jesus.

Born in Rock Hill, North Carolina, Richard lived a life filled with creativity, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He was deeply proud of his service in the United States Navy, where he served honorably aboard the USS Independence. Following his military service, Richard channeled his profound passion for metallurgy and welding into a career as an accomplished teacher for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT). He took great pride in passing his skills and craftsmanship down to the next generation.

When he wasn't teaching or working with metal, Richard was happiest out on the water, finding peace and joy while fishing. Above all, Richard loved people. He possessed a rare, generous spirit that extended far beyond his immediate family to everyone he met. His warmth, skill, and steady presence lit up the lives of everyone around him. Though he is greatly missed, his family and friends are comforted by countless stories and beautiful memories that will bring smiles for years to come.

Richard's legacy lives on through his loving family, including his devoted wife, Amie Brown; his son, Brian Cockman; his sister, Cara Cockman; and his brother, Mike Cockman.

A bright, cheerful celebration of Richard's life will be held on August 28th, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Keith Memorial Methodist Church in Athens, Tennessee. The family invites attendees to wear casual attire to honor his vibrant, down-to-earth spirit. Flowers will be gratefully accepted at the church on the day of the service.
