Obituary

Retha Bell Pendergrass, 81, a longtime resident of Georgetown, TN went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday afternoon, June 23rd, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. Retha was born on March 6th, 1933 in Murphy, NC a daughter of the late Lawrence & Edith Bell. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church. Retha loved canning and cooking, but took the greatest pleasure in taking care of her family.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son William Arthel “Butchie” Pendergrass Jr., four brothers Kenneth Bell, Lloyd Bell, Billy Bell and Whalon Bell and one sister Evelyn Pendergrass.

Retha leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband of sixty five years W. A. Pendergrass, two daughters; Virginia Wampler, Sharon Hanshaw and her husband Joseph, one son B. J. Pendergrass, grandchildren; Debbie, Melissa, Rebecca, Sherri, Tammi, Shannon, Bentlee and Jaxson, great grandchildren; Aiden, Ava, Allie, Timothy, Tyler, Breanna, Jacob, Logan and Gavin, four sisters; Kathy Bird (Bobby), Elsie Hanks, Linda Omdahl and Sandy Martinez (Billy), numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A celebration of her life is planned for Friday, June 27th, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Dixon Chapel of the North Cleveland Church of God with the Reverend Joseph Hanshaw officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnston Cemetery in Georgetown, TN with the family serving as pallbearers. The service will conclude with a white dove release.

The family will receive friends in the Dixon Chapel on Friday from 12:00 PM until the 2:00 PM service time.
