Raymond Allen Simpson

Raymond Allen Simpson, 92, of Cleveland, passed away on Tuesday, July 28th, 2026. He was born and raised in Charleston, and once married, spent the remainder of his life in Cleveland. He spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He filled various occupations throughout his life including holding several positions at Cooke's Food Store and working nine years at Bowater Southern Paper Corporation Plant. He served as a deacon at Belfounte Baptist Church in Cleveland, before serving as pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Benton, and Tasso Baptist Church, also in Cleveland. In his later years, he became an avid runner, and he loved to share his radical health transformation with others. With his renewed energy, he became passionate about sales and interacting with his customers and formed several small businesses along the way. In addition, he spent several years teaching in the preschool department of First Baptist Church of Cleveland, alongside his wife, Frances.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Emma Frances Simpson, his son-in-law Gary Wesley Martin, and his parents Raymond T. Simpson and Sarah Louise Simpson.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Martin, his sister, Joyce Green, his granddaughter Laurel Wilson (Kevin), and great-grandchildren Joshua and Isaiah Wilson; and beloved niece and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Monday, August 3rd, 2026, at Companion Funeral Home, located at 2415 Georgetown Rd in Cleveland. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:00pm immediately following visitation, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, located at 7180 North Lee Highway in Cleveland.
