Ray "Buddy" Newman Short Jr.

Ray "Buddy" Newman Short Jr., 70, passed away peacefully on April 4. 2026. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Ray later made his home in Ringgold, Georgia, where he built a life centered around faith, family, and the outdoors.

Ray was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Kelly Short. He was a proud and dedicated father to Michael (Amanda) Short, Ray (Jamie) Short III, Corey Short, Chelsea Kessler, and Robin Morgan. He was also a cherished brother to Millie (Terry) McElhaney, and Stewart (Crystal) Short. Ray leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

Ray was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ray Short Sr., Lawrence Short, and Kate Short, sister, Rita Short, son, Thomas Ervin, daughter, Samantha Daughtery. While their presence was deeply felt throughout his life, we find comfort knowing he is now reunited with his loved ones.

He had a deep love for hunting and fishing, but nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or quiet moments outdoors, he created memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Ray will be remembered for his strength, his love for his family, and the legacy he leaves behind. In the generations that follow, he wil be deeply missed, and forever loved.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
