Phyllis Diane Stephens Nichols, 72, of Athens went home to be with Jesus on June 2, 2026.

Phyllis enjoyed spending her weekends exploring estate sales and shopping, often making a day of it every Saturday. Throughout her life, she worked in a variety of occupations. Above all else, Phyllis treasured her family. Her greatest joy came from being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she loved her children and grandchildren dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Stephens and Hazel Irene Davis Stephens; daughter, Tammy Renee Nichols; son, Douglas Greg Nichols; brother, Jackie Jr. Stephens; grandmother, Betty Elizabeth King Davis; and grandfather, Franklin Jack Davis.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Douglas Robert Nichols; grandson, Gregory Nichols; great-grandchildren, Jaylin Nichols, Jaycion Nichols, and Te'Asya Cozart; brother, Johnny "Danny" Stephens and wife, Glenda; and special cousin, Rebecca Jean Gibson.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 12:00pm - 2:00pm at Companion Funeral Home of Athens with the funeral service to follow at 2:00pm with Pastor Jerry Stephens officiating. A graveside service will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
