Glenn Allen "Pete" Smith

Glenn Allen “Pete” Smith, 83, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2026.

Born on February 28, 1943, Pete lived a life defined by hard work, service, and devotion to his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as an artillery specialist before beginning a 36-year career with Signal Mountain Cement Company. He was a member of Palmer Baptist Church.

Known to everyone simply as “Pete,” he never met a stranger and was happiest when spending time with those he loved most. He especially treasured traveling with his grandchildren, riding his motorcycle, and found simple joy in mowing the lawn. Above all, Pete cherished every opportunity to be with family and friends, creating memories that will be held close for generations.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Smith and Kathleen Sweeton Smith, and his sister, Wilma Adkins.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Margaret Smith; daughters, Jennifer Church and Lori (Richard) Slye; sister, Cheryl (Danny) Moore; brother, Jeff (Laura) Smith; grandchildren, Audrey (Hunter) Gregg, Grant Slye, Abby Slye, Luke Slye, and Ava Church; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Chaplain Steven Arndt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Pete’s legacy of love, loyalty, kindness, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
