Peggy Joyce Clayton

Peggy Slack Clayton, lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN and member of the United Methodist Church, departed her earthly dwelling for her heavenly home on Friday, November 11, 2016 after several years of illness. Peggy was a resident of Brookdale Cleveland assisted living facilities during the final months of her life. She was born on September 13, 1935. Peggy enjoyed a long, good life of 81 years, with 52 of those special years in marriage to Fred Clayton, Jr. who preceded her in death January 2013.

Also preceding Peggy in death includes Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clayton, Sr. and sister in law Freda Clayton; parents Christine and Euyless Slack; sisters: Betty Collins (William B. “Bill”); June Hayes (Ray) all of Cleveland. Brothers in law: Joe Stafford and Calvin Gray Jr.

Survivors include sisters: Patricia Stafford (Joe), Claudia Gray (Calvin); also surviving is former brother-in-law, Wayne Lakins of Cleveland, TN; nephews and families: Scott Collins family, Samuel L (Bo), Melissa (Missy) and Keeley Collins, Greg Stafford, Angie, Jeremy, and Matthew Nephew and family also survive, along with Billy and Lynnette Collins; nieces: Lisa Center (Doug) and Cody and Stormy Center; Kenny Eckstein family, Christi and son Kendall along with John Hayes are also survivors.

Peggy Clayton was called “Aunt Peg” by these nieces/nephews and loved to have them visit she and Fred, Jr. often at their house. She was employed by the state of TN for thirty years and ten plus years at American Uniform Company of Cleveland.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 15th at 11:00am followed by chapel service at 12:00 pm at Companion Funeral and Cremation Service on Georgetown RD, Cleveland, TN. Rev. Coby Goins will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Peggy’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Signature Health Services for their loving care of Peggy during her final days. Also, to Brookdale-Cleveland staff, her care givers before she had to be transferred from their facilities to Signature Health Services for care.
