Listen to Obituary

With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of Dr. Owen C. Taylor. He entered into the loving arms of his Lord and savior surrounded by his family on December 29, 2025.

He was born and raised in West Frankfort, Illinois. His passion for medicine has been a lifelong pursuit. His father Owen Hobson Taylor was a small-town physician in Illinois. His father's career and passion for medicine played a heavy influence on him. He graduated from Vanderbilt University and then attended medical school at Southern Illinois University. As a resident, he traveled to Memphis Tennessee, where he met the love of his life. Patricia Hall was a nurse working at Baptist Memorial Hospital, where they met. From the moment the elevator doors opened and she locked eyes with his sparkling blue eyes she was in love! The two of them were married and soon after moved to Cleveland, Tennessee to start a medical practice. It wasn't long until they started a family of their own. They were loved by so many in this community and poured out their hearts into everyone they meet.

Owen was a prankster at heart. He would love to tease his colleagues and friends. He enjoyed watching football and cheering on his Vanderbilt Commodores (with much disappointment). When not chasing his kids around, Owen would be in the duck blind, kayaking or enjoying sports cars. He had so many interests and connected with people in so many different ways.

Owen is preceded in death by his parents, Owen Hobson Taylor and Joan Cameron Taylor, as well as his brother William Taylor.

Owen leaves behind his wife Patty Taylor; children: Cameron Taylor ( Rachel), Lindsay Coates (Tanner), John Taylor; grandchildren: Toby Merriman, Caydyn Taylor, Madilyn Taylor, Jackson Coates, Presley Coates; siblings: John Alan Taylor and Susan Taylor.

To honor Owen's remarkable life, we invite all who knew him to celebrate with us. A gathering in his memory will be held on Friday, January 2nd at Broad Street United Methodist Church. A visitation will be from 4pm- 6pm with the service immediately following at 6pm. Dress in a way that reflects your connection with Owen, whether that be in your favorite sports gear, hunting attire, or stethoscope-anything that brings back the memorable moments you shared.

Owen Cameron Taylor's light will forever shine in our hearts. His love for Christ motivated his passion to help others both professionally and personally. He was a true servant at heart. With steadfast faith, he trusted in God's promises, especially the words of Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope." He believed deeply that no life is without purpose.

You are invited to share a personal memory of Owen or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral & Cremation Service is honored to assist the Taylor family with these arrangements.
