Norma Allene Hammond Mahaffey, age 80, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on April 21, 2026. She was born on March 20, 1946, in Athens, Tennessee. Leaving behind a life defined by hard work, creativity, and a deep love for her family. She wore many hats throughout her life - working as a banker, realtor, bookkeeper, and even a trusted babysitter to many. No matter the role, Norma brought dedication, sharp wit, and a caring heart to everything she did.
A beloved member of her family, Norma is survived by three sons, Keith Hammond, Allen Hammond, and Norman Hammond. She was proud of her role as a grandmother to Lane Hammond, Brianna Jones, Brooke Brady, Brendan Hammond, and Brady Hammond, as well as a great-grandmother to Everett, Ethan, Everleigh Jones, Raiden, and Raylee Brady. She leaves behind daughters-in-law Kim Hammond, Darlene Hammond, and Charlotte Peak, along with siblings Martha Lewis, Ella Womac, Jimmy Womac and Phillip Womac. Norma is also survived by other cherished family members, including brother-in-law Gary Lewis, sisters-in-law Kim Womac, Deanna Womac and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Norma had a special love for her 23- pound cat, Scooter! She had a passion for painting and found great joy in watching Lady Vols basketball and the Food Network. She loved to cook for her family, always ensuring that even the sweetest tooth was satisfied. Her love of good food extended to dining at fine restaurants and enjoying leisurely shopping trips. Above all, Norma's greatest joy came from loving her family, creating lasting memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.
In honor of Norma's life, services will be held to celebrate her memory, allowing friends and family to gather and pay their respects. Services will be held at the Companion Athens Chapel, Sunday April 26, 2026. Visitation will be 1 to 3 with a service following. Graveside service will be held Monday April 27, 2026 at McMinn Memory Gardens at 11 a.m.
