Nancy Jane Zipp Flowers, affectionately known as "Nan," age 82, went home to be with the Lord on April 29, 2026. She was born on February 20, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund Jacob "E.J." Zipp and Ruby Artina Cummings Teal; her beloved husband, 1st Lieutenant Lawrence Buford Flowers, who served in the United States Army and tragically passed away while serving in Vietnam; her granddaughters, Meagan R. Gendron and Samantha Standridge; and her loving brothers.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Vickie Lea Flowers; her son, Lawrence Buford Flowers II; her grandchildren, April Ann Flowers, Nicolas A. Gendron, and Shayna Shields; her great-grandchildren, Betty Snapp, Syncere Standridge, Chloey Standridge, and Junior Standridge; several nieces and nephews who were very near and dear to her; her special friends, Steve and Melanie Denny; along with many extended family members and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
Nancy was a proud Gold Star Wife in honor of her late husband, Lawrence. Though she lost him at a young age, she always held him close in her heart and looked forward to the day they would be reunited. She was a retired CPA accountant who lived a full and adventurous life. Nancy enjoyed traveling abroad and even bicycled across Texas. She had a deep love for her pets and found great joy in caring for them.
Nancy was a sweet and kind-hearted woman who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In her own words, "Life is a journey and adventurous, and life goes on." Her favorite book was the good book, The Holy Bible, and her faith remained strong throughout her life. Her loved ones take comfort in knowing she is now at peace with her Lord and Savior and reunited with those who have gone before her.
The family will receive friends at Companion Funeral Home on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM EST, followed by a Celebration of Life service beginning at 3:00 PM EST, with Wes Hall officiating. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM EST at the committal shelter of Chattanooga National Cemetery, with interment to immediately follow where she will be laid to rest with her late husband.
Companion Funeral Home of Athens, TN and the Cody family are honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
