Miriam Hawkins, of Sevierville, TN, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026. She was born on December 1, 1937, in Curry, AL.
She was a proud graduate of Auburn University, earning her degree in education in 1959. She enjoyed teaching in Tharptown, Hatton, and Mount Hope, AL.
Later in life, she became deeply involved in the arts and crafts community of Gatlinburg, serving as manager of the Gatlinburg Craftsmen's Fair for 15 years. She was also co-founder and owner of Smoky Mountain Winery, recognized as the first winery in the state of Tennessee.
She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Bessie Hawkins; her sister, Betty Rae Lance; and her brother, Benjamin Hawkins.
Miriam is survived by her brother, Sam Hawkins; her children, Betsy Sibley and Kerry Sibley (Carolyn); and her grandchildren, Andrew Binkley (Alicia), Jim Sibley, and Olivia Sibley.
A memorial service is planned for a future date in Holly Pond,AL. The family will share arrangements when finalized.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Sevierville, TN.
