Mildred "Midge" Hegwood, age 81, went to her eternal home Saturday, April 11, 2026. Midge was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her. She was known for her caring heart, strong spirit, and deep love for her family.
She was also an avid NASCAR and dirt track racing fan who rarely missed the excitement of race day.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Maggie Irene Christian; her beloved Husband, Don Hegwood,Sr.; Son, Jeff King and Sister, Jimmie Ruth Byous.
Her Survivors include her children Jennifer (Kyle) Burnette of Cohutta, GA, Rebecca Hilliard of Cleveland, and Rick King also of Cleveland; Brother Jerry Byous of Florida, eight cherished grandchildren, Monica (Kevin) Carpenter, Amber Cook (Matthew) Heather King, Jonathan Hilliard, April Hilliard, Morgan Burnette, Justin Musselwhite (Marsha), and Hunter Burnette and Dakota Ward; treasured great-grandchildren: Carrie Ann, Josiah, Jeremiah, Kloie, Kinsley, Jordan,Kymbr, Avery, Barrett, Reagan, Sutton, Ella, and Jackson.
Midge dedicated more than 40 years of her life to the restaurant industry and was proud to retire from the Old Fort Inn in Cleveland, where she was admired for her hard work and friendly spirit. She was truly loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her.
The family will receive friends April 15, 2026, from 5-8 pm at Companion Funeral & Cremation Original Chapel.
