Michael Brent Ward, 53, of Clinton, TN, left this life from the comfort of his own home on July 10, 2026. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ann Raby Ward.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Leigh Wilson, DVM, whom he married in 2019, and his daughters, Sydney Grace Ward and Elliot Sloane Ward; his father, Michael Wayne Ward, and stepmother, Gerry Ward; his brother, Shawn Ward, sister-in-law, Rebecca Ward, and their children, Seth Ward and Hannah Ward; his sister, Tiffany Ward Johnson, brother-in-law, Michael Johnson, and their children, Kylie Johnson and MaKenzie Johnson; and his sister, Jennifer Ward Warren, brother-in-law, Daniel Warren, and their children, Mason Warren, Hayden Warren, and Ari Warren. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life rich with experiences. Born in Knoxville, TN, Brent spent a cherished chapter of his early years living in Germany. He graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School in 1991. He studied business at the University of Maryland Global Campus Europe division at Landstuhl, Germany, and proudly served his country as a medic in the United States Army from 1992 to 1993. Throughout his professional life, he excelled in a variety of sales positions where his natural ability to connect with people truly shone. He loved to make a sale and help people complete their projects. A constant jokester, he always tried to bring laughter to those around him. Overall, he wanted what most people want: to love and be loved in return, to be accepted, and to pursue a soul that was at peace.
Brent did not want a traditional funeral, nor did he need one. During his eight days in home hospice, his family members visited often to say goodbye and let him know how much they loved him. Together, they looked through his lifetime keepsakes, chose mementos to take home, told stories, and reminisced about the past. Because all of this was done while he was still present on this earth, he essentially attended his own funeral-which is a rare gift.
Brent was cremated by Companion Funeral & Cremation Service in Oak Ridge, TN. At his request, a small portion of his ashes was scattered on the Clinch River at the Songbird Canoe Launch in Norris Dam State Park, a spot that held happy memories for him. Some of his ashes were also scattered at his mother's grave, a small urn was buried on the property where he lived in Clinton, and the remainder of his ashes were shared among family in individual keepsake urns.
Brent would want his loved ones to live a happy life and remember him fondly. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
You are encouraged to share a memory of Brent and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral & Cremation Service of Oak Ridge, TN, is honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
