Michael Kenneth Thomas

Michael Kenneth Thomas, 81, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Mike was born on June 22, 1945, in Augusta Georgia. Throughout his life Mike was known for his quick wit, constant joking, and infectious sense of humor. He had a remarkable ability to make people laugh. His warmth, kindness, and playful spirit made him someone people genuinely enjoyed being around.

Mike attended Evans High School outside of Augusta, where he was a talented athlete who enjoyed competing in multiple sports. His academic achievements earned him a scholarship that helped pay his college tuition at Augusta College. He earned the remainder by delivering papers for the local Augusta Chronicle as well as working several other part-time jobs.

Shortly after graduating, Mike joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve and completed his boot Camp at Paris Island.

Mike went on to build a successful career in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Outside of work, Mike had a passion for antiques and possessed a remarkable talent for woodcarving. He created beautiful pieces that reflected his patience and creativity. Throughout his life he treasured spending time with friends, sharing laughter, and countless good times. He especially looked forward to his weekly ping pong nights with friends and enjoyed gathering at his home tavern, where he could relax, tell stories, and enjoy the company of those he cared about.

One of his greatest friends was his faithful dog, Jake. Their bond was one of unwavering friendship, and Jake brought him years of comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. Anyone who knew them together could see that Jake wasn't just his dog, he was family.

Above all else, Mike loved his family. He is survived by his three children, Joel (Deana), Jeff (Mandi), and Jessica (Chris); and his beloved grandchildren, Cadence, Haven, Brandyn, Ike, and Ivy.

Mike will be remembered for the life he lived with humor, resilience, and generosity. Whether through a well-timed joke, a beautifully carved piece of wood, or a shared story among friends, he made the world a little brighter. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Family will meet with friends from 4-6pm with a memorial service starting at 6pm on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Companion Funeral & Cremation Services, 653 Briarcliff Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN.
