Michael Roy Ledford, of Cleveland, TN, passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends who will forever cherish the impact he made on their lives.
Born October 20, 1958, in Cleveland, TN, Michael was a man who lived life with determination, resilience, and a heart much larger than he often let on. To know him was to know someone who was tough, opinionated, and unapologetically himself. He could be cantankerous, stubborn, and rough around the edges, but beneath that gruff exterior was a deeply caring and generous man who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Roy Winston Ledford; his mother, Patsy Bernice Ledford; his sisters, Victoria Ledford and Shirley Darlene Cross; his nephew, Rodney Lynn Cross; and his brother-in-law, Steven Lynn Cross.
He is survived by his only child and daughter, Kodi Ledford Mann, and her husband, Colby Dewayne Mann; his best friend and devoted companion, Pamela Patrice Ledford; and countless extended family members, friends, fellow bowlers, students, and acquaintances whose lives were made better by knowing him.
To say Michael was a devoted father would be an understatement. His daughter was the center of his world, and there was very little he would not do to support her. Whether it meant sacrificing his own comfort, working through pain, or wholeheartedly supporting what he affectionately knew as her "horsey habit," he showed his love through his actions every single day.
That same love extended to his son-in-law, Colby. Over the years, Michael became much more than a father-in-law-he became a second father, trusted mentor, and steadfast friend. The two shared a bond that was built on mutual respect, loyalty, humor, and countless hours spent together. They were rarely far apart, and anyone who knew them knew they were a package deal. Michael cherished Colby as one of his own, and the love between them was evident to everyone fortunate enough to witness it.
For more than twenty years, Michael dedicated himself to coaching bowlers of all ages. He invested countless hours helping both children and adults improve their skills, build confidence, and discover a love for the sport. His influence extended far beyond the lanes, as he became a mentor, encourager, and friend to many. The relationships he built through bowling and throughout his life stand as a testament to the kind of man he was.
Michael never met an animal that didn't deserve a second chance, a meal, or a kind word. His compassion for animals reflected the softness of a heart that many only discovered after getting past his tough exterior. Whether it was a stray, an injured animal, or a pet in need of extra care, he always found room for kindness. His love for animals was simply another reflection of the generosity and compassion that defined his character.
Michael was also a survivor in every sense of the word. Over the years, he endured and overcame challenges that would have defeated most people. He survived a broken neck, a lightning strike, a dump truck brake failure accident, a transfer truck collision, two heart attacks, and cancer. Time and again, he faced hardship head-on and somehow found the strength to keep moving forward. His life was a living testimony of perseverance, faith, grit, and determination.
Those who loved Michael often joked that he was impossible to keep down. He seemed to have an extraordinary ability to survive the unsurvivable. Yet perhaps his greatest strength was not his physical resilience, but his unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Even during his own struggles, he continued to put others first.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of hard work, fierce loyalty, stubborn determination, unforgettable stories, and unconditional love. He made people laugh, challenged them, taught them, and sometimes drove them a little crazy-but he always left an impression. His presence filled every room he entered, and his absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that his suffering has ended and that the love he gave so freely-to his daughter, his son-in-law, his family, his friends, his students, and even the animals he cared for-will continue to live on through those who knew him. Michael's life was a testament to perseverance, loyalty, generosity, and love. He was deeply loved, is profoundly missed, and will never be forgotten.
In accordance with Michael's wishes, no funeral service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, where family and friends can gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of a man who truly lived life on his own terms.
