Michael Phillip Evans Sr., age 70, of Riceville, Tennessee, entered his eternal rest on May 18, 2026. He was of the Lutheran faith.

Born in Dallas, Texas, on October 4, 1955, Michael was the son of the late Paul and Myrtle Evans. While living in Texas, he earned his associate degree and began what would become a lifelong career in carpentry. For more than 50 years, he dedicated himself to his craft, including approximately 20 years as a stair and trim carpenter in the McMinn County area. Michael was a hardworking man who truly enjoyed his work and took pride in all he did.

He never met a stranger and was known for his friendly nature and love of conversation. He especially enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Cissy, and at one time even served as a rescue diver. Michael lived life fully and valued the many friendships and memories he made along the way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Doug Cook; brother-in-law, Charles "Footsie" Burger; and his beloved Siberian husky, Saber.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 40 years, Cissy Burger Evans; sons, Michael Phillip Evans Jr. (Annmarie) and Jason Evans; step-daughter, Valerie Matthews (Rob); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Debora Livingston (Lyle) and Larry Evans (Lisa); brothers- and sisters-in-law, Carey Burger (Faye), Patsy Burger, and Carolyn Casteel (Larry); along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A visitation will be held at the chapel of Companion Funeral Home in Athens, TN on Monday, May 25, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Rebecca Reed will share a brief message at the conclusion of the visitation. A private burial will take place at a later date.
