It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Michael James DeFreest, age 54, of Rossville, Georgia, who departed this life on June 6, 2025. Michael passed away just two days before what would have been his 14th wedding anniversary with the love of his life, Jennifer DeFreest.
Born on October 8, 1970 in Albany, NY and raised in Ballston Spa, NY, Michael brought joy and strength into the lives of all who knew him. His kindness and unwavering loyalty, paired with a sharp sense of humor, made him beloved by many. He had an infectious laugh, a generous heart, and a presence that offered comfort, strength, and warmth.
Michael was a proud and devoted father to his son Harley Moore and daughter Hayley Duran. He was Harley's steadfast role model, guiding him through life's important milestones with love and wisdom. As Hayley's greatest cheerleader, Michael encouraged her pursuit of a medical career, always reminding her of her strength, dreams, and self-worth.
A motorcycle enthusiast, Michael found joy and freedom on the open road. He shared this passion with Jennifer, even teaching her to ride so they could enjoy it together. Family and friends were central to his life. He was always the first to offer a helping hand, and he found joy simply in being present for those he loved.
Michael adored his dogs and treated them like family. He was a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and never missed an opportunity to lift up those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer DeFreest; his children, Harley Moore and Hayley Duran; his "bonus mom," Judith Duran; his siblings, Willis James "Jim" DeFreest Jr (Danen), Leticia Bain (Peggy), Joe Baker, Michele Contreras (José); aunt Judy Winner (Harry), and several cousins. Michael also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he deeply loved and who will miss him greatly.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Willis James DeFreest Sr. and Karen Ann DeFreest.
Michael was a resident of Rossville, Georgia for the past 15 years, and his life and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
