Larry Carter

Larry Carter passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Bradley Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was the son of Charles R. Carter, Sr. and JoAnn Taylor Carter of Cleveland.

He is survived and cherished by his wife of 50 years, Susan Trewhitt Carter; daughter, Jenny Carter Hoffman; son-in-law Matt Hoffman; granddaughters Kylee JoAnn Hoffman and Taylor Paige Hoffman and one brother, Charles R. Carter, Jr. all of Cleveland. Two wonderful nieces Gabby (Timothy) Davis of Memphis and Annie (Schlomo) Ben-Judah of Cleveland. His sister-in-Law Lisa (Dean) Earby was like his little sister, also very special to him. Several great-nieces and one great-nephew also will remember him with love. Many other very special friends will cherish his memory and his stories. There are too many to mention, but they all will miss him greatly.

Larry retired from Bowater where he was employed for 42 years. In his last years at Bowater he was an electrician in the Craft Mill Department. He loved to tell funny stories about himself with the many co-workers during this time. The laughter from family and friends was music to his ears. Larry himself had the best laugh, it was very contagious and everyone would join him with their laughter.

He was an amazing father and husband. Riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles since 1975, he would take all his girls (daughter, Jenny; granddaughters, Kylee and Taylor and especially his wife, Susan, on fun trips on the curviest roads he could find.

He loved his wife, daughter and her family beyond measure. Many of his days and evenings were spent hanging out in his backyard with his wife beside their creek. The best times were when family and friends were there with him.

Larry was his daughter, Jenny's biggest fan through her entire sports career. Basketball for many years from Cleveland Community Center youth league to Trewhitt Junior High School. Basketball, volleyball and track and field at Bradley Central High School where he never missed an event. Finally basketball at CSCC. He only missed one game.

He enjoyed watching his granddaughters participate in all their plays, musicals and sports through the years, especially show choir competitions and the theatrical performances at Lake Forest Middle School and Bradley Central High School.

There will be no service per Larry's request. There will be a private service at Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery at a later date.
