Melvin "QB" Nichols, age 79, passed away on January 2, 2026. He was born on July 20, 1946.
QB was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Nichols and Dovie Ann Nichols; his brothers, Richard Nichols, John Nichols, and Ralph Nichols; and his sister, Alice Lawson.
He is survived by his beloved family, including his nephew, Randy (Michelle) Lawson; nieces, Lisa Lawson and Judith Lawson; and his cherished great-nieces, Brittany (Trey) Lewis, children Mckinley, Hudson, and Kellen, and Laranda (Tanner) Renfro, parents of Tate; and dear friend Allison Gerhold.
QB was of the Christian faith and loved the Lord deeply. He was known for his love of life, his strong faith, and his constant reminder to "stay on the right side," as he often said. He enjoyed telling stories from long ago and never missed an opportunity to share memories from "way back."
He loved taking drives to the mountains, visiting Amish communities, and spending time around the Charleston boat dock. A man of many skills, QB could fix just about anything mechanical. He enjoyed working on lawnmowers, fishing, picking poke salad and turnip greens, and spent many years working in the logging industry. Above all, he treasured time with his family, especially playing with and being around the children, who brought him great joy.
