Matthew Shawn Daniel Cooke, known lovingly to all as "Mopar," passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 6:55 p.m., surrounded by those he loved and who loved him in return. He was born on July 9, 1975.
Shawn was a devoted father, proud Papaw, and lifelong friend. He was a highly skilled mechanic whose talent, generosity, and willingness to help others were known throughout the community. He never met a stranger and would go out of his way to lend a hand to anyone in need. He took great pride in his work and loved with his whole heart until his final breath.
Shawn leaves behind a family who will carry his memory and the love he gave them for the rest of their lives. He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Bailey and her husband, Brodie Bailey, and his grandchildren, Addison, Carson, Norah, and Everlee; his son, Matthew Cooke and his wife, MaHaley Cooke, and his grandchildren, Arabella and Lincoln; and his son, Jacob Patterson.
He is also survived by his former wife, Melissa Brown, who held a special place in his heart.
Shawn is also survived by his brother, Dean Cooke; nephews, Michael Cooke and Joseph Cooke; niece, Anna Anderson; and cousins, Alta Human, Stacie Human, Wayne Human, Tessa Johnson, David Byrd, Regina Carroll, and Gary Davis. He will also be remembered by his close friends, Jordan Palmer, Jacob Baxter, Paul Wilder and Ricky Archer, along with the many people whose lives he touched through his kindness, friendship, and willingness to help.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Cooke; his father, James Walker Cooke; his sister-in-law, Debbie Cooke; his cousin, Stanley Human; and his longtime friend, Mike "Hammerhead" Richardson.
Shawn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We find comfort in knowing that his pain and suffering have ended and that a new life has begun. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched, the people he helped, the stories he shared, the friendships he made, and the love he gave so freely.
