Mary "Glenda" McCarter Scoggins, 80, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday evening, March 11, 2026, in a local hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 15, 1945, in Cleveland, TN, a daughter of the late William Glenn and Mable Collins McCarter. Glenda was a member of the Mt. Olive Church of God. She enjoyed and was very gifted at quilting, making many quilts over the years for her family and friends. Glenda loved her family dearly and spending time with them was of the upmost importance. She worked for many years managing several of the local Collins Markets. After she retired from that, she took a job with Companion Funeral Home assisting families during their visitation and services. This was something that Glenda was truly gifted at and touched and blessed many families over the almost 11 years she served at Companion. Glenda worked up until just a few days ago when her health forced her to take some time off. She was loved and will be missed by many people. No one, including Ms. Glenda, will ever know the number of lives she has touched.
In addition to her parents, she joins in Heaven her beloved son Kevin Scoggins, her daughter Tammy Scoggins Leatherwood along with her stepmother, Flossy Tommie McCarter and one brother Joe Collins.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband and soulmate Leon "Whick" Scoggins of 64 wonderful years of marriage, one granddaughter Amber Olinger and her husband Todd, two grandson Tyler Dooley and Zack Scoggins, two great grandsons Aiden Olinger (Hope) and Ian Dooley, one great granddaughter Zoe Dooley, one sister Sue McCarter, one daughter in law Leisa Winner, one special adopted in love family member Sue Olinger, numerous other extended family members, her loving Companion Family, church family and many special friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Mt. Olive Church of God. A service celebrating her life will follow officiated by the Reverend Gary Sears, the Reverend James Sears and the Reverend Quinn Green.
The interment and committal service will follow in the Earls Cemetery with Todd Olinger, Aiden Olinger, Tyler Dooley, Zack Scoggins, Junior Scoggins and Joey Reed serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all the employees of Companion Funeral Home.
You are encouraged to share a memory of Glenda and/or your personal condolences with her family by visiting her memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home and the Cody family are honored to assist her family with these services.
