Martha Lee Corvin Swafford, age 82, went to join her husband, son, and many beloved family members and friends in Heaven on January 2, 2026. She was born on January 28, 1943, to Eli and Ruthy (Jenkins) Corvin and was one of ten children. Growing up, Martha cherished the love and bond of her family.
She met and married the love of her life, James Clifford Swafford, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: David, Kim, and Jill. Martha was a dedicated wife and a loving mother, always putting her family first. Her heart was big, and she found joy in giving to others, even when she didn't have much to give herself.
Martha had a special gift for growing beautiful flowers, spending countless hours nurturing them. She also loved to sing, especially about Jesus, and cherished the days spent singing with her sisters and husband. Even when she could no longer speak clearly, she still sang and hummed songs about Jesus and Heaven. Her family will forever treasure the memories made during family meals, holidays, and gatherings.
She was predeceased by her husband James Clifford Swafford, son David Swafford, her parents Eli and Ruthy Corvin, and her siblings: Lake Corvin, Ray Dale Corvin, Charlotte Waters, and Shirley Frazier.
Martha is survived by her two daughters, Kim (Nathan) Ross and Jill Swafford, and her daughter-in-law, Dina Swafford, who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Tyler, Clay, and Nolen (Ashley) Goins, and Mike and Brandon Loyless. Her great- grandchildren, Reese and Kit Goins, and Blaise, Caius, and Braylee Loyless, will carry on the sweet memories of her love. She truly cherished her brother-in-laws, Daniel (Deborah) Swafford, Harold (Ann) Swafford and those who went on before her, Dewitt, Betty, Billy, Odell, & Raymond Swafford.
She is also survived by her loving sisters: Evelyn (Don) Defriese, Twyla (Kenny) McAmis, Sue (Don) Brown, and Jo (Jimmy) Musselwhite, and her brother Carley Corvin. She leaves behind her much-loved sister-in-law, Mary (Ray Dale) Corvin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Martha's legacy of love and gentle compassion will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
A celebration of life service will be held on January 9, 2026, at the Companion Funeral Home Chapel at the Ridge. A graveside service will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, with Chuck Defriese offering words of remembrance and encouragement.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice, especially Chaplain Judy Scott, for their dedicated care over the past 22 months. Special recognition and thanks also go to caregiver Aileen McElhaney, whose love and care for Martha were beyond measure.
We will be anxious to see you running through Heaven's field of flowers when we get there. See you soon Mommy, Love Jill and Kim
