Mamie Farmer, affectionately known to many as "Lil Mama" and "Granny Cookie," passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the age of 76.
She was a deeply loved and cherished member of her family and community, known for her warmth, strength, and enduring love for those around her.
She was a devout Christian and talked with the Lord everyday.
Mamie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Johnny L. Farmer Jr.; her mother, Ruby Lee Hanley Swaney; her brothers, Doug Swaney (Janice) and Randy Swaney (Yvonne); her grandparents, Alfred and Willie Mae Hanley; her father-in-laws, John L. Farmer Sr. and Buck Williams; her mother-in-laws, Carolyn Farmer and Gladys William; and her lifelong best friends, Dwight and Lorraine Speegle.
She leaves behind a loving legacy through her children: Anthony Keith Farmer, Robert Heath Farmer (Serena), Jonathan Jeremy Farmer (Donna), and Kelly Jo Phillips (Brian). She is also survived by her brothers, George Swaney (Denyse) and Gerald Swaney (Jo); and her sisters-in-law, Yvonne Swaney and Janice Swaney.
Mamie's love and influence will continue to live on through her grandchildren: Monica Formby (Josh), Georgia Giles (Stefan), Makayla Zipperer (Cade), Eden G. Farmer, Zachary Farmer, Andrew "Drew" Gibson (Paiton), Mary Gunter (Michael), Tim Toler, and Geri Williams (Will); and her great-grandchildren: Cameron, Casey, Connor, and Chloe Formby; Timothy "Timmy" Toler III and Levi Toler; Hazel and Walker Gibson; Destiny and Tashawn Williams; Lexie, Elijah, and Michael Gunter Jr.; and Chelsey Smith.
Mamie will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her fierce devotion to her family, and the joy she brought to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of those who loved her.
