Lydia Kathleen Whisenant, 69, of Ooltewah passed away peacefully after a long illness on August 21, 2025, at a local Hearth Hospice facility.
Lydia was born on January 21, 1956 to Clyde M. Whisenant, Jr. and Alma Jane Secor Whisenant. Lydia attended The Lutheran School and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, East Ridge High School and later graduated the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) where she was a sister of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She worked for years in graphic services at UTC and also at Clemson University. Later in life, she thoroughly enjoyed working in the hospitality industry including Embassy Suites and Winstar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, OK. In 2012, she returned to Chattanooga to the delight of her family and enjoyed many years of wonderful memories and precious time together, including with our Dad before he passed away. She was a talented guitarist and singer and lent her talents to so many events through the years. Lyd loved to play golf, snow ski, and play games especially obliterating her little sister in Scrabble (and losing to her in Rummikub). She had an absolute soft heart for animals of any kind and especially loved her departed fur babies, Spanky and Shorty and our Mosby. Later in life, she loved to watch women's golf and basketball and crochet and crochet and crochet. She could do anything she set her mind to. Her family will miss her sense of humor and her constant supply of random, fun facts about anything and everything.
Immediate survivors include her brother Arthur Clyde Whisenant, Ethan Charles Whisenant and Melanie Whisenant Brannan, her nieces Patti Grace Brannan, all of Chattanooga, TN and Emily Marie Whisenant of Virginia, and other nephews and several cousins. To her friends she was Boomer, but to her family, she'll always be Honey Bun. We look forward to the day we see her again in heaven!
We'd like to thank the staff at Hearth Hospice for all their care, especially her nurse Lisa, over the last several months. A private family gathering will be held at a later date in Hiawassee, GA, a favorite place of Lyd's.
