Leslie Garold Lewis, 81, affectionately known as Big G, and a resident of McDonald, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Erlanger Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 18, 1944, in Dalton, Georgia, he was the son of the late Roy and Charlene Lewis.
In addition to his parents, Garold was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Olen Lewis, and brother-in-law Tim Lawson.
Garold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nancy Farris Lewis; his children, Charles Lewis (Janet), Keith Lewis (Melody) and Amy Cagle (Dewaine); his sister Tana Sue Lawson; his grandchildren, Kyle Lewis (Lauren), Evan Lewis (Mikaela) and Ryan Lewis; his great-grandson Caden Doolin; nephews Justin Lawson and Shaun Lawson (Shea); niece Kristian Graves (Sam); special cousins Martha Clark, Susan Headrick (Steve), Randall Morgan (Darleen) and Steven Peden (Annette), extended family and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
Garold was a successful business owner and respected member of the printing industry, owning and operating The Type Shop for many years. Through hard work and dedication, he built a thriving business and earned the respect of his colleagues and customers. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Garold found great joy in farming, raising cattle, amassing a billion dollars in prize money by playing Tiger Woods Golf with Nancy, and tending his garden, where he was especially proud of his tomatoes and peppers. Each summer, he loved to make the rounds to share his homegrown tomatoes with family, friends, and neighbors. He also had a talent for woodworking and enjoyed crafting wooden boxes and benches, which he was delighted to give to those he loved. Garold also treasured time spent with his friends at the Chattanooga Billiard Club. His strong work ethic, generous spirit, and love for others will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
