Listen to Obituary

Kayla Renee Johnson went to be with our Lord on March 29, 2026. She fought courageously against a debilitating illness that began in late 2015. A natural leader with an indomitable spirit, Kayla faced every challenge with strength, grace, and determination.

Growing up, she was a powerhouse on both the softball field and the basketball court. Her coaches lovingly nicknamed her "Special K" for her remarkable grand-slam abilities and the spark she brought to every game.

Kayla made friends wherever she went. She was the life of any gathering-radiant, funny, and full of joy. Even after her illness required long-term medical care, she kept the staff laughing with her playful personality. Over time, they became like a second family to her.

Kayla cherished her role as an honorary Godmother to several children of close friends in West Tennessee, a title she held with deep pride. Her impact on the people around her will continue to live on through cherished memories, shared stories, and countless photos and videos. She taught many what it truly means to be a warrior. Her journey was far from easy, but she faced it with a smile-even in moments marked by tears. She could be strong-willed and stubborn at times, yet always quick to apologize even when she didn't need to.

Kayla is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Thomas Sidney Johnson and Ethel Mae Johnson, and her maternal grandparents, Teddy Berry and Wilma Broglin (Fargo) Robinson.

She is survived by her father, Joe David Johnson; her mother, Lillie Alkhashti (Todd) Cox; and her brothers Christopher (Allison) Alkhashti, James Alkhashti, step-brothers Brett (Rachel) Cox, and Shane (Lynn) Cox. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A special thank‑you is extended to Natalie Thomason, Chelsey Rodriguez, and Kayla's brothers for helping care for her and supporting her mother throughout Kayla's long fight.

For Kayla: This world is forever changed without you. May you rejoice in Heaven with those who went before you. The rest of us will join you in the time the Lord has planned, and we will be reunited in His presence.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Crossroads Baptist Church in Sweetwater, TN.
