Kathryn Inez McCracken, aged 81, passed away on Tuesday Morning, June 10, 2025, at her home surrounded by those she loved most in this life. For the last several years she suffered from the terrible disease of Alzheimer's. Kathryn lived a faithful life in her walk with the Lord, having obeyed the Gospel at the age of 9.
She was born near the Old Fort area of Bradley County and was raised on a farm near that same area. Until approximately 5 years ago, she and her husband, Eugene, lived and together raised their 4 children, on part of that same farm. Five years ago, her and Eugene built a home in Benton, TN on the Ocoee River.
Kathryn attended Taylor Elementary School and then Bradley High School. She graduated from Taylor Elementary School as Valedictorian of her 8th grade class. She attended Taylor school with Eugene. They became sweethearts at a very young age. After worship services on a Sunday morning at the Union Grove church of Christ, her and Eugene, on the spur of a moment decided to drive to Lafayette, Georgia to get married at the young age of 16. Eugene was 18. Had she lived until the 26th of this month, they would have been married a full 65 years.
While Kathryn was still 16, they gave birth to their first child, Kathy Marie. Three years later, their son Timothy Eugene was born. Seven years later, they gave birth to Philip Brent and then 3 years after that, gave birth to their fourth child, Adam Kirk.
Kathryn was a homemaker and was a well-known seamstress, which she did from her home, so that she would not have to place her children in daycare. She enjoyed camping and gardening and encouraging the lost to be saved
Above all her many accomplishments, she placed her allegiance to God and His Church first and foremost. She has been a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, with the last 23 years at the Union Grove Church of Christ where her husband, Eugene, served as an Elder.
She is preceded in death by her son Philip Brent McCracken in 2002 as well as a granddaughter, Heather Jefferson in 2021. Also proceeding her in death were her parents, Paul J. and Ilene Davis.
All of Mrs. McCracken's siblings, apart from one, preceded her in Death. They include Pauline Davis, Reba Jean Davis, Daniel P. Davis, Martha Sue Hampton, Syble Newton and Fred Davis.
Surviving her in death are her Husband of 65 years, Eugene McCracken, her children, Kathy McCracken Goins of Benton, Timothy E. McCracken (Renee') of Woodstock, Georgia, and Adam McCracken (Jenny) of Cleveland.
