Kathleen Antionette Smith of Harrison, Tennessee passed away on July 2, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was 69.
Kathy was born September 15, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri to Arthur and Doris Inverso. Not long after, her family moved to Clearwater, Florida and Kathy’s deep love for the beach was born. Although her marriage took her to Georgia and then Tennessee she always spoke fondly of her roots in Clearwater. Kathy often shared memories of fishing with her father and siblings for their “Friday Catholic Dinners”. Her sons were excited to take her on a recent beach trip where Kathy lovingly remembered her childhood memories of the “old Florida,” recalling the unspoiled sand dunes and lack of high rises.
Kathy spent her whole life caring for others. She began as a young teenager volunteering as a Candy Striper at a local hospital. She went on to earn her CNA license, then her LPN license, and her RN license. Earning her RN license was no small feat having two young boys as a single mom, after the passing of her first husband. She was no stranger to perseverance. Over the course of her 50-year career, Kathy was there for thousands of people in their time of need. The only thing that surpassed her love of nursing was her love for her family. Her two boys, Garry Jr. and Jeremy were her pride and joy. When all three of them were together, you can bet there was some cutting up going on. Kathy also never met a dog she didn’t befriend, having had many as pets over the years. Recently, she mourned the loss of her beloved lab, Jazzy.
Kathy leaves behind her husband, Mike, her sons, Garry Clark Jr. (Christy) and Jeremy Clark (Jessica), her stepdaughter, Rachel Atkinson (David), grandchildren, Megan Lott (Tim), Jadon Velazquez-Clark (Daniel), J.P. Clark, Emma Clark, Stella Foreman, Sawyer and Ruby Atkinson. She also leaves behind her sisters, Pam, Mary, Carol, her brother, Charlie, many nieces and nephews and others who will miss her terribly. Kathy was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Garry Clark Sr. and her parents.
A celebration of her life will be held privately at a later date.
