It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Michael Thompson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend, who left this world peacefully on May 29, 2026, at Sweetwater Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in the heart of Sweetwater, Tennessee, on March 9, 1969, Mike lived a life filled with love, dedication, and deep connections with all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Mike was the beloved son of Elizabeth Louise Thompson and the late Pete Eugene Thompson, and he carried forward the legacy of kindness and integrity instilled in him by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Tamara Thompson, who stood by his side with unwavering support and love. Their marriage was a testament to a profound and enduring partnership.

He was the proud father to his son, Christopher Thompson and his fiance, Kim Brown, and his daughter, Miranda Cronan and her husband James Cronan, all of whom he adored immeasurably. Mike's legacy continues through his five grandchildren, Christine, Riley, David, Evan, and Mason, who all brought endless joy and light to his life. His gentle spirit and playful nature will forever be remembered in the laughter and love he shared with them.

Mike dedicated over 20 years of his life to his work as a welder, where his skill and craftsmanship left a lasting mark. His colleagues remember him as a man of strength and integrity, whose work ethic and camaraderie enriched the lives of those he worked alongside.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Mike found peace and fulfillment in the simple pleasures of fishing and gardening. Mike took immense joy in sharing these passions with his grandchildren, teaching them to appreciate the wonders of nature.

In addition to his immediate family, Mike is survived by his loving mother, Louise Thompson; his two sisters, Donna Crowder and her spouse, and Gena McDaniel and her spouse; his brother, Gene Thompson and his spouse; and his brother-in-law, Hank Jenkins and his spouse.

He also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces and nephews, each of whom he cherished dearly. His father, Pete, predeceased him, and Mike now joins him in eternal peace.

The Thompson family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Sweetwater Hospital ICU for their attentive and devoted care during Mike's final days. Their kindness and professionalism provided comfort and solace in a time of profound difficulty.

As we gather to celebrate the life of Joseph Michael Thompson, we remember a man whose heart was as expansive as the skies he loved to fish under. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and warmth, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Mike's memory, as a way to continue his spirit of generosity and kindness. A celebration of life service will be held to honor his remarkable life, details of which will be shared by the family.

Mike's memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him. Rest in peace dear Mike, in the embrace of the heavenly gardens.
