Jones "J.P." Mahaffey

Jones Peek (JP, “Snyder”) Mahaffey, a resident of Cleveland, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 28, 2020.

Jones was born in Morton, Mississippi, on February 26, 1946. He was the 4th of 5 children (and the 3rd son) of William Louie Mahaffey and Edna Elizabeth Regions Mahaffey. He is preceded in death by both his parents and by his oldest brother, William Edgar Mahaffey.

A veteran of the US Air Force, Jones was also an ordained Bishop in the Church of God, as well as a credentialed Chaplain for both Bradley and Hamilton County hospitals.

Jones is survived by his wife of 53 years, Thelma Jean Rutledge Mahaffey (Cleveland, TN); daughter, Veronica Lynn Mahaffey (Ormond Beach, FL), and son Gary Brooks Mahaffey (husband, Thomas Cranmore) (Soddy Daisy, TN). Jones is also survived by his siblings: James Howard Mahaffey (Clara Mahaffey) (Arizona), Edna Lucille Austin (O.H. Austin) (Mississippi), and Harry Gene Mahaffey (Mississippi), and sister-in-law Paula Janelle Mahaffey (wife of William Edgar Mahaffey, deceased) (Oklahoma).

A celebration of life will be held in the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home on Thursday, October 1, 2020, with public viewing from 10:30am-11:30am and services to commence at 11:30am, followed by burial with military honors at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
