John Thomas "Tom" Moore

It is with peaceful hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved John Thomas Moore, who entered heaven on Christmas morning at the age of 91. Born in Louisville, KY on October 29, 1934, to William and Lucille Moore.

Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian church of Marietta, Georgia.

Tom's life is marked by his love for people, kind heart, and friendly disposition. He befriended anyone who crossed his path and remained a genuine and loving figure others could look to and rely on.

He married Katherine Hughes in 1963 and raised two children, Susan and Wesley. He worked as a successful CPA for years before becoming a professor at Eastern Kentucky University and later Kennesaw State University. He made a personal and professional impact among students and received awards such as "Professor of the Year."

All his life, he was a dedicated Kentucky basketball and sports fan, and is known for passing on his passion to those in his family. Tom served in the United States Navy for 4 years.

In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his sister, Lucy Moore Hartman.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Moore; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Darrin Gaynier; son, Wesley Moore, all of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Maria and husband Nick, Molly, Joshua, and John; and great grandchild, Grady Moore; 5 nieces, 5 nephews, and extended family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 28, 2025 at 2:00pm, at Companion Funeral Home- Cleveland Chapel, with Rev. Guinn Green officiating.
A graveside service is to follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery.
