John Edward McInnis Jr, age 79, of Athens, TN, passed away on September 4, 2026. He was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on January 8, 1947. John was predeceased by his beloved mother, Helen McInnis, his brother, Jerry McInnis, and his sister, Joanne Breeding.
He lived his life as a devout follower of Jesus Christ, leaving behind a legacy of deep faith, laughter, and devotion to his family and friends.
John was a man who truly loved the simple things of life and the beauty of the outdoors. Some of his happiest moments were spent volunteering at his church, deep sea fishing with his dad and brothers in Florida, and deer hunting with his father. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life and cherished every moment spent surrounded by those he loved.
His faith guided everything he did. John was an active and dedicated member of Fairview Baptist Church in Athens, TN, where he found great joy in giving back to his community, particularly through his time volunteering at Camp Fairview. Professionally, John worked for many years as a Sears in-home service repairman, a career that ultimately brought him and his family to Sweetwater, Tennessee. He later worked at Wright Hardware in Sweetwater, TN and went on to work at Bowater Southern Paper Company in Calhoun, Tennessee, where he dedicated 25 years of service before his well-earned retirement. John will be remembered by all who knew him as a man with a servant's heart-always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and always ready to share a warm joke and a laugh with those around him.
He is survived by his loving family, including his father, John E. McInnis, Sr; his daughter, Keri V. McInnis; and his son, John E. McInnis III (Elizabeth). He was the incredibly proud grandfather of his two cherished granddaughters, Emma M. Gibson (Nate) and Madelyn M. McInnis. He also leaves behind his brother, Richard A. McInnis, along with many extended family members and close friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM EST at the Fairview Baptist Church located at 261 County Road 439, Athens, TN 37303. A celebration of life service will follow immediately from 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM EST with the graveside immediately after the service at Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park in Sweetwater, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in John's memory to Camp Fairview at Fairview Baptist Church, Athens, TN 37303. Arrangements: Companion Funeral and Cremation Services, Athens TN. Florals: Blair's Bo-Kay Florist and Gifts, Madisonville TN.
