John Goines

John Henry Goines, age 90, of McMinn County, Tennessee, passed away on January 7, 2026, at NHC Healthcare of Athens, Tennessee.

John was born on February 12, 1935, to the late Fannie Moses Goines and Bart Goines. He was a hardworking man who found great joy in the outdoors. An avid gardener and outdoorsman, John was especially known for his love of growing watermelons-a pastime that brought him pride and happiness throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Johnnie Mae Graham Goines, and his grandson, Kevin Sledge.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children: Rita (Marvin) Sledge, Anita (Jeff) Morrow, and Eddie Goines; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sisters, Geneva, Patsy, and Nina, along with many extended family members and friends. The family also would like to extend their gratitude for all of the staff at NHC Healthcare in Athens and his hospice team at Hospice of Chattanooga, especially Charity, Amber, Carley, Melissa and Lorrie for their care and compassion for John , it is truly appreciated. 

At this time, there are no traditional services planned.
