John Patrick Goetz

John Patrick Goetz, age 60, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away at his home on May 6, 2026.

Born in Wisconsin, and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, John spent his life deeply rooted in the community he called home. He worked in transportation, a career that reflected his steady reliability and strong work ethic. More than anything, John valued his family and the routines and traditions that mattered to him most.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Goetz; his daughter, Ashley Carlyle; and his son, John Michael Goetz. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Bobbye Goetz, as well as a niece and nephew. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Madeline Carlyle and Sullivan Carlyle who lovingly called him Papa John.

He is preceded in death by his father, William Goetz; his mother, Annabelle Goetz; and his daughter, Jessica Goetz.

John will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the joy he brought into everyday moments. He loved the fall season in Tennessee and was a devoted fan of Tennessee Vol Football. His family will always remember him for the simple, meaningful traditions he created: Saturday mornings cooking breakfast with his children, cartoons playing in the background, and music filling the house. He especially loved listening to reggae music and singing Bing Crosby’s “I'll Be Home For Christmas” during the holidays.

John had a gift for helping others in practical ways. If your car was making a noise, he was the one you called, and he would always try to figure it out. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of steadiness to those around him.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew him.
