John Mark Fisher October 5, 1951 - March 4, 2026
John Mark Fisher was born Oct 5, 1951, in Chincoteague, Va. to Troy Hazel Watkins Fisher and William George Fisher both of whom served careers in the U.S. Navy. Mark spent much of his childhood in Norfolk, Va. where he became a lifelong Virginia Tech fan. Upon his father's retirement, the family moved to Rockford, TN.
Mark graduated from Everett High School in Maryville in 1970. He worked diligently in a long career of over 25 years at Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Loudon, Tennessee.
Mark was a lifelong fitness enthusiast and an avid cyclist. He rode several "Century" (100 mile) races including Grandfather Mountain and Mt. Mitchell.
He became a Christian later in life and was baptized at Sevier Heights Baptist Church where he was a faithful member for more than 30 years. His spiritual gift was giving, and he always faithfully tithed and also gave liberally to missions and to a local Christian School. Before illness limited his abilities, he was very passionate about seeing people all around the world come to know Jesus. He served for several years with Awanas and in the preschool department at church where he was affectionately known as a "kid magnet" as children naturally gravitated toward him.
In later years, his passion was his children. He went to great lengths to see that they were cared for and had everything they needed. His greatest joys included watching Tim's and Teagan's wrestling matches, taking them fishing, watching Teagan play music, and riding roller coasters.
He is survived by his children, Timothy Christian Fisher and Anna Teagan Fisher, and by his former wife and caregiver, Paula Fisher. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Thacker and several nieces and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Hazel Watkins Fisher and William George Fisher, his brother William Martin Fisher and niece Jenny Thacker Steele.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7, at East Maryville Baptist Church, 1150 Brown School Road, Maryville, TN 37804, Dr. Hollie Miller officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.
