Listen to Obituary

John Kirk Browning, affectionately known to family and friends as Kirk, age 75, left this earth and entered Heaven on December 21, 2025, in Cleveland, Tennessee. Kirk was born to Clarence John Browning and Shirley Lee Browning, both of whom preceded him in death. Though known for most of his life as Kirk, later in life he reclaimed his given first name, John-a distinction he accepted with good humor, even when it caused a little confusion.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Browning; his son Chris Browning (Alyssa) of McKinney, Texas, and grandchildren Taylor, Ethan, and Corrine Browning; his son Ben Browning (Meredith) of Ooltewah, Tennessee; his brother Mark Browning (Paula); his sisters Beth Littich (Ron) and Lesa Hemming (David); along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whom he deeply loved.

Kirk worked for many years as a software engineer, but later in life discovered a true passion for tutoring math at Bellevue Home School Enrichment in Nashville. There, he helped form the school's first Robotics Team, which went on to earn second place in district competition and 11th place at regionals. His joy came from drawing out the very best in young people and investing in their growth. A lifelong learner and teacher, Kirk was especially passionate about studying and speaking on Original Design. He always made time to meet over coffee, to listen, encourage, and thoughtfully engage with others. Known for carrying a 3×5 card in his pocket, he was ever ready to jot down a thought or insight.

Above all, John Kirk loved his family. He was immensely proud of his sons, dearly loved his daughters-in-law, and treasured his grandchildren. After moving to Cleveland with Linda in August of 2025, he had many hopes and plans for the future. Yet, in the early morning hours of December 21, quite unexpectedly, Jesus called him home. Now, his busy and curious mind is at rest, joyfully exploring the mysteries of Heaven. Kirk's greatest love was for his Savior, Jesus Christ. If he could leave one final message, it would be this: do not miss out on the greatest gift ever given to mankind-the love that only Jesus Christ can give.

A celebration of John's life will be held on January 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at The Chapel, 2412 Wolfe Dr. NW, Cleveland, TN 37311.
