Jim Hicks

January 5, 1944 — July 16, 2025

Jimmie "Jim" Barker Hicks, born in Henderson, North Carolina, left this earth to be with the Lord on July 16, 2025, leaving a quiet emptiness in the spaces he once filled with laughter and long stories.

Above all else, Jim was a man of deep faith. He was a member of Ladd Springs Church of God. For many years, he traveled far and wide with his gospel singing groups, The Servants and Friends from the Ridge, sharing music, hope, and the word of the Lord. Singing was one of Jim's greatest joys, and his voice lifted many hearts along the way.

Jim also loved fishing and spending time with his family, cherishing both quiet moments by the water and the laughter of loved ones gathered around him.

Jim worked for 24 years at Maytag, where he made not just a living, but many, many friends who became like family.

Jim married the love of his life, June "Gemini Red" Hicks, in 1997. Together they built a life full of long stories, good food, and gospel music. Gemini preceded Jim in death, and there's comfort in knowing they are now reunited.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Viola Stevenson and James Hicks. He leaves behind his son, Denny White; his daughters, Shelly Hicks, Treva Bolton (Tim Bolton), and Brenda Elder (Randy Elder); his special grandchildren, Dakota Bolton (Nikki Bolton) and Tucker Bolton (Carley Bolton); his great-grandchildren, Riggins and Rovie Bolton; his beloved nieces; and his cherished dogs, Gracie and BoBo. He also leaves countless friends, fellow musicians, church family, and his many buddies from Maytag who'll forever remember his laugh and his faith-filled heart.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial be made to the charity of your choice. A private memorial service will be announced and held at a later date.

While we will miss him every day, we find comfort in knowing that Jim is now home with his beloved June. Though he's gone from our sight, his memory and love will always remain in our hearts.

You are invited to share a personal memory of Jim or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral & Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Hicks family with these arrangements.
