Obituary
Jerry Ray Garland, 64, died unexpectedly Saturday May 17, 2014 in a Chattanooga Hospital. He was born on November 28, 1949 in Coker Creek. He was retired from Whirlpool after 43 years. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Nine Pins Bowling Team at Whirlpool. He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Bill and Inez Garland, maternal grandparents John and Rebecca Debity, parents Arvil and Vernell Garland, brothers Ricky and Eddie Bill Garland, and grandson Jaxon Arvil Ray Chadwick.
He is survived by the love of his life, Debbie Fritts Garland, his two daughters Melanie Evans and her husband Darrell, Amy Chadwick and her husband Kevin "Moocher" Chadwick, grandchildren: Misty Fallin and her husband Alex, Amber Jones, Jonathan Jones, and his best buddy ever Grayson Chadwick, brothers, Freddie Garland (Helen), Eddie Garland (Ann), sisters Ersa Massingill and Eva Carden (Horace), several nieces and nephews and many friends.
He always had a smile on his face. He loved helping others. He would give the shirt off his back to a stranger in need. He was a friend to everyone he met. His life was a witness of what it means to be a true Christian. As he did while he lived, he gave freely after as an organ donor. His church and friends were very important to him. He leaves behind his best friends: Allen Bullard, Kenny "Chief" Thomas, Dave Jeffers, Willis Myers (Pooh Bear), Terry "Cotton" Myers, Ernie Evans, and Steve "Roho" Farrar. He loved his family more than anything in this world.
A celebration of life service will be held in Jerry's memory at 2:00pm on Wednesday May 21, 2014 at Galilee Baptist Church located at 665 Old Chattanooga Pike, Cleveland, TN 37311. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with full military honors and Shane Garland, Eric Carden, Michael Fannin, Chase Fannin, Justin Patterson, and Eddie "Pud" Garland serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the church from 4:30pm-9:00pm on Tuesday May 20th and on Wednesday the 21st from 11:00am until the service at 2:00pm.
